In Reading:
Our number ONE goal is to have students read excellent, engaging books. Either, they will enhance their current love or change their identity as a reader. We want kids to know what it feels like to read and complete a number of good books so they can say, "I know what it feels like to be a a reader!" There will be high level peer discussions each day where kids will receive a peer grade based on their ability to discuss Standards that are required of all readers. For example: Students will need to infer the deeper meaning behind setting descriptions or identify ways Characters change over time. There will be minimal writing to keep the focus on the reading and discussion experience.
You will be graded on the following:
-Students need to keep up on their daily reading. We will be completing one book every TWO weeks. They will need to read approx. 15-20 pages A NIGHT; this includes weekends. If you find your child is struggling with the reading, please contact me so we can find that support that will help him or her succeed.
- Students will earn 2-3 peer grades each week for their participation in discussion groups. They will also earn grades for illustrating their learning or other teacher directed assignments.
